Re: A World record in static apnea was broken in Volos, Greece by free diving champion, Chronis Chlitsios, scoring time 14 minutes, 18 seconds and 33 hundredths of a second.<br />
The record was attended by a crowd that flocked in the courtyard of the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen, by the seaside, to watch the Greek champion's attempt as part of the town's Maritime Week.<br />
A special tank with water was installed, in which the athlete went in just before 9 pm. Before commencing in his attempt, he prepared for 20 minutes, in which he gradually inhaled pure oxygen. Around 21:15, after he completed the necessary stage of meditation, Chronis Chlitsios dived into the tank.<br />
The previous record stood at 11 minutes and 35 seconds.
