The tin was found in the garden of a house that had been burgled in the Splott area of Cardiff.
A laptop and a bike were also taken in the burglary at the house on Gwendoline Street in April.
Kyle McDonagh’s fingerprints were identified following forensic tests, and a search for him was launched.
The 28-year-old evaded officers for a number of weeks, and even tried to goad police with photographs that he posted using social media.
It is understood he took a picture next to a police van and posted it.
And he also wrote: "Another chase at least it's keeping me fit in suppose."
