But that is exactly what happened when the Data Cabs driver picked up Chinese pair Kai Huang and Quix India.
He said he had never seen anything like it after years working as a taxi driver.
"It came up on the computer that there was a taxi booked in Townhill for 6.30pm so off I went.
"When I got there a guy came out and said that his wife was in labor.
"When I was driving to the hospital she screamed that the baby was coming and that she could feel the head.
"I then pulled over by the side of Vivian Road in Sketty and the baby was born at 6.45pm."
The baby's father Kai Huang described the moment he "freaked out" when his wife Quixia Chen gave birth to their son He said: "I was really scary, I freaked out.
"My wife started experiencing some painful contractions so we phoned the hospital and they told us to get her to the hospital immediately.
"We then phoned a taxi and it arrived within five minutes.
"The baby came really quickly and half way to the hospital the driver had to pull over as the baby was born before the ambulance arrived.
"Both mother and baby are healthy now and the baby is called Loeo."
