Re: Officers are investigating two robberies that occurred at stores the area in Newport this morning.
It’s believed the same man carried out both robberies. At approximately 8.15am he entered a convenience store on Malpas road and at 8.21am a convenience on Albany Street. In both incidents he demanded money and there were minor altercations with the staff inside. The offender left without any money. In both incidents two staff members, one in each store, received minor injuries.
In the Albany Street incident a phone and a bank card were stolen from an individual inside the store.
As part of our ongoing enquiries into the robberies officers are now outside a flat in Shrewsbury Close where there are concerns for the safety of a man inside. We believe he is in the property alone at this time and officers are currently outside the flat speaking with the individual.
A cordon is in place around the property and the flat underneath has been evacuated as a precaution.
