Pensioners John McMurray, 79, and wife Eva, 84, were asleep when their car was set on fire and bricks hurled through their windows.
Real Madrid star Gareth, 27, was yesterday(sun) comforting Emma Rhys Jones, 25, who always visits the couple when she is home from Spain.
Retired gamekeeper Mr McMurray and his wife have been moved into a safe house while police investigate the arson attack in Llanishen, Cardiff.
A neighbour said: "We were woken up by a loud crack and a flash - I could see the car was on fire in their driveway.
"I called the fire brigade and I could see the McMurray's trying to get out of their house.
