Edmunds, 86, was confronted after raping and fondling children 20 years ago.
He apologised and said he feared going to prison for the historic offences.
Edmunds had no idea his victims, now adults, were taping him on a mobile phone.
They gave the recording to police and Edmunds was charged with 27 offences.
