Re: A young mum became allergic to water after giving birth has described how the rare condition has made her life a “nightmare”.
Cherelle Farrugia, from Cardiff, south Wales gave birth to baby Willow in November 2017 but after six weeks she developed a painful rash every time she had a shower.
It took three months for doctors to diagnose her with aquagenic urticaria, a condition which leads to hives developing rapidly after the skin comes into contact with water.
The Cardiff and Vale College student is unable to take her daughter swimming and even has to cover up when it rains.
There is currently no cure for the severe allergy which is thought to have affected just 35 people worldwide but doctors believe it is linked to changes in Cherelle’s hormones after giving birth to Willow.
